Pillar 4 · Matthew 9 · The Lord's Prayer

Let Go & Rest

Surrender is freedom. Be still; bent knees break chains.

Casting your care is not putting it down gently in case you need it back. It is throwing — letting the thing leave your hand entirely, because Someone stronger has offered to carry it. Most of our exhaustion comes from holding on with one finger still hooked through the handle.

Bent knees break chains. Stillness looks like the weakest position in the room and is the strongest, because it hands the battle to the One who fights for us. Come weary. Come burdened. Come exactly as tired as you are — the rest on offer is not idleness but wholeness, the kind that puts back what the week took out.

The peace Christ gives steadies the soul in every storm.

Rest

God's rest is not idleness but wholeness, renewal and strength for the journey.
